| I just got an iPhone 4 with 4.0.2 (bummer). My 3gs was running 4.0.1 and I have my blogs saved from that phone. Does anyone know if the blogs from the 3gs will allow me to downgrade the iPhone 4 to 4.0.1? |
Image: People who had gotten used to making ringtones by paying Apple *again* for a song they'd already bought were dismayed to find that the feature had been removed from iTunes 10. MacLife's Roberto Baldwin (http://www.maclife.com/article/news/...ones_itunes_10) wrote one of the first of many reports about the absence of the "Create Ringtone" option on the Store menu. However, the end-around many of us have been using for years - clipping tracks and changing .m4u extensions to .m4r - works fine with iTunes 10, so the change just seems to affect the folks who have been falling for the double-payment scam all this time. If you are just hearing about this scam now, my apologies. Take a look at **one1**'s how-to right here (http://modmyi.com/forums/ringtone-al...-itunes.html); it's really easy and works with any song, not just ones you purchased from Apple. The only difference with iTunes 10 is that it won't work if you drag the .m4r into the iTunes Music window or the Ringtones folder. However, if you just double-click the file in the Finder, it will be appear in your Ringtones folder and be added to your iPhone at the next...More... |

Image: http://modmyi.com/images/Messany/german iPhone.jpg Whenever there's a story to be told about the iPhone losing carrier exclusivity, it's a nice reminder that such scenarios are indeed possible. As reported today by the Wall Street Journal, iPhone exclusivity in Gemany is about to end. And O2 and Vodafone are poised and ready to swoop in and carry the iPhone just in time for the holiday shopping season to commence. ---Quote--- Deutsche Telekom AG will lose exclusivity for Apple Inc.'s iPhone in Germany ahead of the holiday shopping season, bringing the number of providers that sell the device in the country to three, people familiar with the matter said. ---End Quote--- The Wall Street Journal noted that Deutsche Telekom had sold somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.9 million iPhones in Germany as of June 30. Until now, Germany was hailed as the last major European country to support iPhone carrier exclusivity. With carrier growth now coming to and end on the German homestead, it will be interesting to watch just how lucrative and beneficial this arrangement will prove for Apple and its customers. More... |
Image: If you haven't already noticed, there's an un-advertised "feature" that comes with Ping, Apple's music social network introduced via iTunes 10 this week. The additional attribute referenced, of course, is spam. And a lot of it. Spammers have surrounded Ping like the paparazzi on Lindsay Lohan outside of a night club. Making matters worse, however, is that sophisticated spammers are targeting legitimate users with "Apple products," and corresponding links claiming to give away "free iPhones" and bestow other unbelievable deals you can't possibly pass up - all in return for filling out a "simple survey." But it isn't just a few sensitive users bugged by these spammers. Even security firm Sophos is concerned, observing on its official blog that Ping has become a bedrock of spam saying that thew new social network is now "drowning in scams and spams." Because Ping doesn't have any spam filter (at least not at present), rampant spamming has become a major issue only days after the social network's launch. "If half as many free iPads, iPhones and iPods were being given away as Ping comments might lead you to believe, there will be no reason to bother with going to an Apple Store," a security expert with Sophos wrote. "But if...More... |
Image: iOS is the third most-used operating system on the internet, according to a NetApplications report (http://www.netmarketshare.com/) published today. The "Global Market Share Statistics" study showed that browsers powered by iOS made up 1.13 percent of the total last month, edging all flavors of Linux - the former number three - which accounted for only 0.85 percent and blowing away Android-based browsers which had just a 0.2 percent share. Vince Vizzaccaro, vice president of Net Applications, said that "it's something to take note of when a mobile operating system passes something that's been around forever," referring to Linux which came out almost 20 years ago. "Mobile is becoming quite a phenomenon on the Internet," Vizzaccaro observed, noting the 2.6 percent of all internet traffic accounted for by mobile devices. "That's massive when you think about it," he said. The big dog is still Windows, with all versions accounting for 91.34 percent. The second-place holder, Mac OS X, declined somewhat to an even 5.00 percent, less than any variant of Windows, with Windows 7 at 15.87 percent, Vista at 14 percent and the venerable XP still holding strong at 60.89 percent. The number of iOS devices out there...More... |

| And now, Apple has published two new commercials, each for the iPod touch and iPod nano. These new iPod commercials highlights all the features which are new to both the devices. The iPod touch commercial focuses on the new features such as HD video recording, FaceTime calling, and the wide collection games that the device is capable of playing. The iPod nano commercial also focuses on the features new to this 6th-generation nano, such as the ability to perform swipe and rotate gestures on the multi-touch screen, and clipping it anywhere you want using the rear clip found on the back of the device. |
| TwitterforiPad.jpg Panes: Tapping on a Tweet opens a pane to the right. Depending on the content in that Tweet, you’ll see a video or photo, or maybe a news story, or perhaps another Tweet. You can continue tapping on Tweets, opening new panes, and getting new content as long as you’d like to. And, it’s really easy to move between panes by swiping to the right or left. Media: When you tap a video link or open a web page with an embedded video, you can play that video inline. And, let’s be honest, video is great but sometimes it can take some time to load. The panes in Twitter for iPad let you look through your timeline while a video is loading, and then you can just swipe back to the video when it’s ready to play. You can also pinch on a video to watch it fullscreen. Gestures: You can pinch on a Tweet to quickly view details about the author and to take actions on a Tweet, such as reply or retweet. Put two fingers together and pull down on a Tweet to peek at the replies, showing the entire conversation leading to that Tweet. Image: Many Apple users worldwide have spent some time scratching their heads over the new iTunes feature called Ping. Apple's so-called "social network for music" is supposed to let users follow artists and bands, as well as find out what their friends are listening to. However, there's no way to connect with friends, other than spamming them with email, because despite the fact that Facebook interconnectivity is still - up to this moment - advertised on Apple's site, Ping still doesn't have it. Steve Jobs blames Facebook, claiming they wanted too much. In an interview by Kara Swisher at All Things D (http://kara.allthingsd.com/20100902/...onerous-terms/), Jobs says Apple was in talks with Facebook over Ping, but the two companies were unable to come to an agreement. He was quoted as saying Facebook wanted "onerous terms that we could not agree to." When Swisher asked what the hangup was, Jobs declined to elaborate. She pressed him on whether iTunes could support Facebook Connect to allow sharing between the two platforms. The Apple CEO was noncommittal. 'We could, I guess,' he shrugged. It seems pretty clear that the hooks were in for...More... |

Image: http://modmyi.com/images/Messany/Screen shot 2010-09-01 at 1.53.21 PM.png While there is certainly no shortage of excited Apple fans and digital media consumers about the refreshed Apple TV (http://modmyi.com/forums/mac-news/72...just-99-a.html) rolled out yesterday by Steve Jobs at his company's annual September event, the reaction today among Wall Street analysts is anything but exuberant. In fact, most appear to view the forthcoming Apple TV revision as anything but a "game changer" for living room entertainment. In addition to introducing a new fleet of refurbished iPods (http://modmyi.com/forums/ipod-news/7...d-line-up.html) (many of which will now sport long-awaited features), Apple also spotlighted iOS 4.1 (http://modmyi.com/forums/iphone-news...w-updates.html) and iOS 4.2 (http://modmyi.com/forums/ipad-news/7...ios-4-2-a.html), and the new iTunes 10 with the Ping social music network. But the "hobby" reserved for last at yesterday's event was the rumored second coming of Apple TV, a cloud-centric $99 shell of its former self. And while many on Wall Street still think it will be a huge seller (especially this holiday... More... |
