Jailbreak and Carrier Unlock of 3GS on 3.1.2

This tutorial is to unlock an iPhone 3GS running OS version 3.1.2, with modem firmware 5.11.07 (check this in Settings>General>About)

Its probably a good idea to not have itunes running and kill the ituneshelper process also.

Step 1: Jailbreak your iPhone 3GS with Spirit.

After you jailbreak with Spirit you need to use wi-fi to connect to a wireless router connected to the internet. Then you run Cydia and install blackn0w as per instructions below.

Step 2: Launch Cydia from your iPhone Springboard.

Step 3: Select Manage from the tabs at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4: Select the sources button and then press the edit button at the top right of the screen.

Step 5: Press the Add button at the top left of the screen and input http://www.blackra1n.com as the source address then press the Add Source button.

Step 6: Return to your sources again and select blackra1n.com from the list of sources.

Step 7: Select blacksn0w from the list of packages and press the install button at the top right of the screen.

Step 8: Press the Confirm button and wait for the unlock to be installed then press the return to cydia button.

Step 9: Wait a few minutes for your CommCenter to restart and then reset network settings, on the phone, from Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings (ONLY) . You will now be able to use the SIM card of your choice on your unlocked iPhone.
